George Pimm was born as George Hyatt in 1846, and was christened in Sunbury-on-Thames on 3 January 1847. His parents never married. His father was George Hyatt, a labourer and later hay binder; his mother was Eliza Pimm from Chertsey. They lived together and had seven children. Eliza died in 1857 when George was ten, and his father remarried to Irish-born Catherine Donavon the following year. George then lived with his maternal aunt and uncle, Charlotte and William Kirk, in Sunbury-on-Thames, whilst working as a rope-maker.
Elizabeth Penfold, known in childhood as "Betty" and in adulthood as "Betsy", was born 16 February 1850 in Shifnal, Shropshire. Her parents were labourer Edward Penfold and his wife, charwoman Susannah Sturmey. She was christened on 8 June 1851 in Sunbury-on-Thames, Middlesex, where her parents had just moved.
George and Elizabeth married on 28 November 1869 in Sunbury-on-Thames. They went on to have eleven children, seven of whom survived. George worked as a labourer and Betsy as a laundress. When they were older, Betsy retired and George worked as a night watchman. They lived in Sunbury Lane, Walton-on-Thames.
George died aged 67, and was buried in Walton-on-Thames on 7 January 1914; Betsy died in 1922 aged 71.
