William Sedgwick was born on 13 March 1851 in Isleworth, Middlesex, and christened there on 6 April 1851. His parents were John Sedgwick, a worker at the Brentford gas works, and Catherine Maddox.
Eliza Chandler was born in 1850 in Brentford. Her parents were labourer George Maddox and his wife Ann Martin. She had two older brothers.
William and Eliza started living together in around 1868, in the High Street in Brentford. William worked as a hawker. In 1869 they had their first child, and married in 1873. William worked as a labourer; then in the 1880s the family all made strawberry punnets and walked to Brentford Market every weekend to sell them. Eliza died in 1891 aged 41.
William Sedgwick then married a young widow, Louisa Elizabeth Goble, in 1897. They went on to have six children. William worked as a night watchman and then a railway worker. They lived in Whitestile Road, Brentford.
William died in 1931 aged eighty; Louisa died in 1938 aged 68.
