Luite Westerhof was born on 8 February 1820 in Oldemarkt, Overijssel. His parents were labourer Peter Westerhof and Hendrikjen van der Woude. After Peter died when Luite was five, Hendrikjen worked as a labourer, moving to Weststellingwerf, Friesland in the late 1830s. Marrigje Hoogstede was born on 28 May 1822 in Vollenhove, Overijssel. Her parents were labourer Albert Hoogstede and housewife Marrigje Jannes Thalen.
Luite and Marrigje married on 29 April 1853 in Blankenham, Overijssel. Luite was then working as a farm labourer and Marrigje as a maid. Luite and Marrigje remained in Blankenham for their whole lives, raising their family. Luite later worked as a labourer and carpenter.
Luite died on 10 June 1897 aged 77; Marrigje then moved in with her son Marten, who was married with children. She spent her final years there before dying on 17 January 1905 aged 82.
