The birth registration of Johanna Christina Louisa Vittali, Johanna's identically-named daughter. At the time Johanna was unmarried and working as a domestic servant. Johanna was born in her mother's home and the informant (usually the father) was Augusta Krüfs, a 43-year-old midwife. The two witnesses were Franciscus Dieben, a 52-year-old messenger, and unemployed Engelbertus Heilbron, 62 years old. These men were not related to Johanna and it is unknown why they were the witnesses, and how they knew her (if they did). Johanna's birth was registered after three days.
Johanna and Johannes married on 6 February 1907 in 's-Gravenhage, eleven months after their daughter was born. Johannes was a 19-year old carpenter, living locally. His parents were Johannes Mattheus Caffa, a chimney sweep, and Margaretha Pas, both of whom were also living in 's-Gravenhage. Johanna was 24 and also living locally, the daughter of Paulus Wilhelm Vittali, also a chimney sweep, and Anna Christina Louisa Blok, who were living in Amsterdam.
An amendment to the certificate clarifies that Johanna Christina Louisa Vittali, born in 1906 and registered under her mother's name with no father listed, was now officially recognised as Johannes's daughter. She thus took on the Caffa surname.
The witnesses were:
Pieter Vitali, 24, chimney sweep - brother of the bride
Dirk Eldert van den Bree, 30, mason
Bartholomeus Heppener, 39, no occupation
Wilhelmus Petrus Heppener, 33, no occupation
Both Johannes and Johanna signed the certificate. Below their signatures are those of Johannes's parents. J. Blok is likely either Johanna's uncle Johannes Blok or aunt Johanna Blok - their signatures would have to be compared. Johanna's brother Pieter signed the certificate as a witness. Her parents did not appear to sign.
